The Genki Spark all-ages Asian women’s performance troupe promotes the voice and visibility of Asian women while advocating respect for all.
With the youngest members in their teens and the oldest in her 50′s this multigenerational performance troupe uses Japanese taiko drumming, spoken word, martial arts, dance, humor, and personal stories to build community, inspire creativity, and promote cultural pride to further a world where everyone is respected. The Genki Spark is a fiscally sponsored project of ASPIRE (Asian Sisters Participating in Reaching Excellence) a Boston based charitable, 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that seves Asian American women and girls.
Intent on sharing the joy of taiko drumming as well as promoting a progressive agenda, The Genki Spark works with educational groups and community organizations providing interactive workshops, panel presentations, weekly classes, and demonstrations on a wide variety of topics designed to build community, inspire creativity, and promote self appreciation.
“One of our goals includes breaking stereotypes about Asian women. We are loud and proud, strong Asian women with full of in-your-face attitude (in a good way!) and we’re not afraid to speak our minds! The Genki Spark encourages those who are shy to step up and speak out and to love who you are.” Jen Moy, teen Troupe member
